Episode 27
Jon Gold has worked in the music industry in his hometown of Los Angeles since the early 1970s. Classically trained on guitar in baroque and flamenco music by gypsy maestro Vicente Gomez, this multi-instrumentalist recorded his first album while in high school with friends Mike and Jeff Porcaro later to become Toto.
Jon later became one of the founding members of the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo and has since toured with Grateful Dead family members Tom Constantin and Bob Bralove of Dose Hermanos, Steve Kimock, and Jason Crosby while playing keyboards in the Grateful Dead tribute band, Remnants Of Eden in addition to performing and recording with musical luminaries as diverse as Delaney Bramlett, Albert Lee and B.B. King, and likewise with ukulele legends Bill Tapia, Jake Shimibukuru, James Hill and Ukulele Bartt Warburton.
While having been recorded on 4 albums and toured with country music artist Jeffrey Michaels & The Trail to Heartache since the early 2000s, Jon was simultaneously recorded on another 4 albums. He appeared extensively with the Robert Heft Blues Band. From 2012 through 2014 Jon's project focus was his music and video work with Joe Tansin of Badfinger and Dean Ford of Marmalade and the remake of Dean’s mega-hit song, Reflections Of My Life.
2015 -2016 keyboard projects include performance work with Grateful Dead tribute band Cryptical Development, with outlaw country rock band The Twains fronted by singer-songwriter Cory B. Clay, recording and performing with the LA-based indie-alt country rock band MR Snakes, as well as with Austin / Nashville based singer-songwriter King Corduroy. Jon also has been participating in musical performances with political activist-musician Jay Ponti in support of projects including a benefit for the earthquake victims of Nepal, a Bernie Sanders campaign rally closing down Hollywood
Blvd, and a Dakota Access Pipeline protest in solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux tribal council at Levitt Pavilion in MacArthur Park.
Since 2016 Jon has been delving deep into the catalog of Jerry Garcia’s solo career in the Jerry Garcia Band, performing and touring with Jerry’s Middle Finger band as his main focus. Still, he has also been recording and performing with singer-songwriter John Jakubek and Mother Jones, an all-original band and brainchild of JMF members Son Vo and Halina Janusz.
